Podcast app missing from player options

Hey there! I’m having essentially the same issue as in this topic, where my preferred podcast app (Aurelian) isn’t detected by any media player widgets (KWGT or KWLP). Unlike in the original post, however, Aurelian isn’t listed at all in the Preferred Media Player settings, so I can’t enable it there. It does show payback in the notifications and on the lock screen, so that’s not the immediate issue.

What would the next steps for troubleshooting this be? Is it something Aurelian’s dev needs to fix? It’s a relatively young app so it’s certainly possible that something’s missing or a switch needs to be flipped.

The Kustom app’s Preferred Music Player list consists of auto-generated apps that are compliant with Android music player standards. If your app is not listed, it is most likely not compliant. You may want to talk to the developer of the app first.

Got it, thanks! I’ve been meaning to share some feedback anyway so I can add this to the list. Is there something I could say specifically that would point them in the right direction?

Not sure if it’s meaningful, but I’ll add just in case - the app does work through other, non-Kustom third party player widgets, ex. the one included with Smart Launcher.

Hi again! Strange update to this, or perhaps a new but related issue. Over the last couple of days, my audio widgets have displayed all sorts of odd behavior. I’ll do my best to describe the things I’ve noticed in the order in which they’ve occurred. For context, I currently have a KWGT player widget on my home screen that I am in the process of recreating/improving in KWLP, so both appear on the screen simultaneously.

  1. The widgets stopped showing any playback information from Spotify and appeared blank
  2. I tested my other audio apps to see if they were still working with the widgets as expected. Libby, Audiobookshelf, and Vaani (early access Audiobookshelf client) all worked as expected. The widgets appeared transparent when Audiobookshelf was playing, but I believe that’s a fault of the ABS app not properly sending cover art through.
  3. Aurelian still did not work, also expected at this point.
  4. I tried Spotify again, and it was still not working - the widget showed info from the last used app (Libby I believe).
  5. I went and started playback in Vaani again, and the widget started showing information from the music that had previously been playing in Spotify.
  6. I went into the Spotify app and resumed playback there, at which point the widgets started displaying the audiobook information from Vaani.
  7. I went into the preferred player settings in KWLP to see if anything had changed. Oddly, Libby had disappeared from the list, though it still showed on the summary of selected services before I opened the setting.
  8. I checked to see if Libby playback still worked with the widget, and it appeared on the widgets as expected.
  9. I returned to the preferred player settings in KWLP and unchecked everything, then rechecked the ones that had been previously been selected (minus Libby as it had disappeared).
  10. I ran through all of the selected audio apps, and each one now seemed to work as expected. When I got to Libby, it no longer appeared on KWLP, but it does still show on the KWGT widget, as I never changed the preferred player settings there.
  11. I resumed music playback in Spotify. The widgets updated to reflect current playback, but the music controls no longer functioned.
  12. I opened and closed the Spotify app. Now, the music controls on the widget function, but they display information from the previous playing song, even after advancing the track with the widget controls.

I hope that provides a clear overview of the sequence of strange happenings. I did look into my app update history in Google Play and saw that two days ago, Libby got an update that made significant updates to the audio player. I assume this is what broke its connection to Kustom, but it still works just fine in the native notification player and other third party widgets (and in the KWGT widget, even though I can’t select it as an option in the preferred player settings anymore).
