On unlock the wallpaper shows black for ~0.5s briefly before drawing the wallpaper normally. This is with parallel draw disabled. Enabling it partially solves the issue (sometimes it still flashes black but inconsistently), but instead the wallpaper stops updating ~10m after applying it. It only unfreezes if I apply another wallpaper and then apply klwp again. The wallpaper is extremely simple, 1 clock and 1 PNG. I am on a pixel 9 pro xl, smart launcher. I apologise if the brief black screen is expected behaviour, but I found no evidence of that online and wanted to be sure.

I am sorry I cannot reproduce the issue you experienced with, on my phone. There’s no blinking (black/blank screen) between locked and unlocked states on my phone.
NOTE: the black color in this preview shows the screen off, not the blinking.
I use a different phone but with Smart Launcher (the latest version).
CMIIW, it appears the issue is related to the phone’s setting(s) and/or the Smart the setting(s).
Thank you for the response. While I still don’t know the source of the issue, after some troubleshooting I’ve found that:
- The issue isn’t specific to smart launcher, it appears in the stock launcher as well.
- Enabling parallel rendering does not partially fix the issue, instead when the wallpaper freezes the flashes stop occurring. I was mistaking the lack of flashes for the issue being solved.
- Setting the live wallpaper on the lock screen is a mess: on the lock screen, the wallpaper (sometimes) briefly flashes before it becomes black. The wallpaper stays black until unlock.

Edit:
After some more testing:
- reinstalling the app does nothing
- A random live wallpaper app had no flashing
- The flashing does not depend on the wallpaper, it flashes already with only one image
- Moving image to the klwp folder does not help.

Thank you for sharing your preset. I replace the image because it was not included in the preset so the image doesn’t show up.
I have investigated the preset and I believe I found the cause of your issue, and also the solution to it.
The Culprit is setting the Visibility of the preset to: If Not Locked ➞ setting or selecting this will cause the preset to show ONLY when the screen is unlocked.
The solution is setting the Visibility to: Always ➞ this will show the preset both when the screen is locked and unlocked.

Dude you are the GOAT, thank you so much. This indeed has solved the flashing issue, and so far I’ve had no freezing. I’ll update this if I encounter any more freezing.
Unfortunately the freezing has not stopped. Now instead of it taking about 10 minutes I see it once every 1-2 days.

Is it just the freezing issue or the flashing one as well?
Also, have you tried another phone(s) to test the same preset with the same version of the KLWP app? This is to check whether the issue is related to the preset, the KLWP app or something with the phone’s settings.
Only freezing for now. I have not tried on other phones (and don’t have the option to). I suspect it has to do with my phone specifically though, maybe some battery settings. The issue is I’ve checked and klwp has unrestricted background battery use so idk
