Version 3.81b531008 of KLWP Taking HUGE Amounts of CPU

Is it just me? It has been a while since I edited my wallpaper in any way. Last time might have been even a couple releases ago.

But I needed to edit some stuff now and I cannot help but notice that as soon as I start editing, the CPU being grabbed is HUGE. The editor is super slow - like taking over a minute to react to a touch. Even once exiting the editor, the wallpaper process continues to grab HUGE CPU.

I do not recall ever seeing this in all of my years using Kustom. What is UP? Thanks

I love Kustom. But this is getting really bad. I just discovered that somehow, items got deleted from my wallpaper. I am not specifically blaming Kustom for that. But with all the lag and delay, I must have tapped something, not realized it, and then deleted along with something I actually intended to delete. And that is not good at all.

Because I am rooted and am totally anal about backing up everything all the time, I was able to recover the lost item but lost any intervening changes in the process.

I am going to have to start working my way backwards into older versions of the APK to try and find out where things went off the rail.

As I continue to experience more of the same, I have really started to pay more attention. Here are the patterns I am seeing:

  1. From the time I boot my phone until the time I actually start the editor, KLWP has no problems I can see. The “top” command shows it using 30-35% most of the time - perhaps a bit higher when it is running some flows.

  2. As soon as I start the editor a new process for the editor is shown in the “top” command. Even if I do nothing at all except open the editor, this process jumps to at least 85%. If I start doing almost anything, the process jumps to 95% or more.

  3. After opening the editor, doing nothing, and closing the editor, the non-editor process returns to its “normal” shown in #1 pretty quickly.

  4. If I open the editor, do just about anything - say change the padding on an item’s location - it seems to lag alot. When I try to close the editor, it keeps asking me over and over again each time to save or not - even though I have answered yes on the first time. I can see the editor report that it was saved but the prompts continue on and on. Finally, I have to just answer Discard to get out back to the home screen.

  5. At this point, the KLWP process (not the editor process) goes way high with % reaching at least the high 80’s and sometimes higher. I also not that at least some of my flows start acting strange and producing odd visual effects - almost as if the flow gets stuck at some point and then the flow is re-started and again gets stuck - maybe at a different point this time. This continues and continues. If, after some time, I reboot the phone, it all starts again at #1.

This is NOT usual behavior. I have no idea what is going on. As I said, I have not done any editor of my wallpaper for some time - months - and there have been at least 2 releases (all betas) during that period.

I have now been through this cycle many, many times. Since my edit sessions are small and fast, I generally can manage to get what I need done despite the lags and delays. But I always need to reboot in the end to get things running right. I even tried force-kill the wallpaper app and then re-set KLWP as the home screen wallpaper. But, strangely, that is not enough. Only a full reboot will do the trick to get things running right again. FYI
