It has been a long time since I have posted, but I have been working on other projects. One such project is a Trash Countdown.
Background
I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time remembering whether it is a trash or recycling day. It got so bad that my family asked me multiple times a week, so I decided to make a reminder in KWGT.
What you need
- KWGT app
- Calendar with the title Trash
- Optional - Subscribe to a Google Calendar through your Trash company’s website if available
What it does
The KWGT displays Trash or Recycling and Trash depending on if it is an even or an odd week. I have also added a daily reminder that includes the “Wait Until Day” which cycles each week. It is just a simple way to keep track. The coolest thing I added is a custom day of the week marker that shows or hides depending on the day
Calendar Setup
Instructions may be a little different depending on your setup. I just threw them together on the fly, so bear with me
I used Samsung Calendar, but I think it would work with other built-in Calendar apps.
If your trash company doesn’t provide a calendar with trash and recycling events, the other option is to create a custom calendar named “Trash Pickup” or something with Trash in its name
Create an All Day event with the title “Trash” and set it to repeat every day of the week your trash is picked up, for instance Tuesday, but be sure you set it as a recurring event for every two weeks (not sure this works)
Create another All Day event with the title “Recycling” and set it to repeat every day of the week as the previous step, but have it as a recurring event every three weeks (not sure this works)
Note : By making it an All Day event, it should be the first event every 2nd or 3rd Tuesday. If your trash day is Monday, adjust the day in your calendar

Don’t mind the DEBUG group, delete at your discretion
Rather than giving my usual breakdown of the entire widget, I will simply say that if this works for you, there will be no more “What day is trash?” dilemmas. I used some new techniques, with respect to the odd even weeks and the overlapping markers.
