Since I’m into retro stuff, I thought I would make a simple widget in the style of Amiga OS 1.3, that shows the current IP address, because in my case I could be on mobile data, where it will vary, or I could be on Wi-Fi at home where it’s fixed. The cursor that may or may not be in this screenshot is designed to blink like the Amiga did, but the speed of rendering updates doesn’t really let it work.
Keeping with the retro theme, I wanted to make a simple display terminal that scrolled the content of a markdown file that I have synchronized between all of my different devices. Because of permissions and accessing the file where I had it, I had to go outside of KWGT and use Tasker to perform the reading and updating and just tell the widget what to show.
This one will confuse you. Sometime last year I learned that following the French revolution, for a period of like 12 years, the French used metric time where they had 10 hours in the day, and then like 100 minutes or something.
So I got curious about the idea and did some experiments, and I found that I preferred using a system with 100 major units in a day, then the next unit is only 10, and then the next unit is in thousands. So 50.0.00 is noon.
Then I thought I should maybe introduce this into a watch face, but also try and make it look a little classy, so I came up with this design that is minimalist, and I worked quite a bit to get the face to look like the old indiglo watches where, for illumination, the entire face would light up. I had a lot of trouble getting the look of the illumination right, and I still feel like I didn’t.
If anyone knows how to get the outer edge of this face brighter than the inside, please let me know. I just couldn’t seem to figure out a way to get it to be brighter on the outside and darker in the middle.
