"Glow" for items with FX props (ALL K*)

I may have missed it somewhere, but I’m used to using the drop shadow function in graphic design programs to create a glowing effect by making the shadow lighter and setting it at a distance of zero. But it does not seem like I can do that and have it be visible on all sides.
Even if not for glowing, this would also be good for ambient occlusion type effects.

Hi there,

Do you have any examples and/or references in regards to your idea?

Thanks.

Perfect example I found. Outline and glow don’t seem possible, but if shadow has the proper params available, you can set its distance to 0, but then set a “size” parameter (missing) to cause the shadow to be visible all the way around the object. Then, with blur very low, you can do an outline, or with it more diffuse, you can do a ambient occlusion, or using a brighter color, a glow effect. AO in particular is good for making elements pop, and especially good for making realistic-looking “real” stuff (gears, etc.)
In the KWGT screenshot, the apparent (unsatisfying) effects are achieved with a second copy of each element.
The top one is meant to be phosphor bleed + glow! That means dimmer edges on left and right (falloff) and then a glow all the way around. The effect here works alright (combo of two copies of the text + shadow tricks in two directions).
The second one is necessarily two copies of the text (the back one shows the LED/LCD “full rack”). The front one is the illluminated segments, which should have glow (none attempted here). The others are a simpler pairing of two copies, just to see how they looked.
The “4:90” kind of achieves the look, using an overlay of two copies, plus filters, plus shadows.

There is a weird function to add glow to text in the formula in bb code its at the bottom set teh values to negative 5

I will check that out, though I more often need it for shapes and containers.

I’ve never thought about setting it to negative value actually… always used blur as a"glow". Thank You for that tip.

Please elaborate. I am new to it.
