Greetings Earthlings,
Just a question, not a critique.
Is KWGT still being developed?
The reason I ask is because it has been maybe almost two years since I requested certain basic functionalities in KWGT like “a way to see which file I’m working on”, and a regular “Save As function”, and the developer then said he was working on it.
In the mean time a few new iterations of KWGT came out, and some bugs were fixed but this very basic functionality is still not present. Will it ever?
I understand that KWGT is a niche. I don’t think I ever saw anybody that has it on their phone, let alone in combination with Tasker.
But I am just curious where KWGT stands and will be going in the future?
Personally, I am very grateful for the work the developer has done on KWGT. Together with Tasker, KWGT forms the backbone of my workflow on my phone and I would really hate it, if I had to go back to stock UI.
In the past I suggested a collaboration with Tasker, because KWGT and Tasker belong together like a horse and carriage, so to speak. That would be awesome.
Tasker’s developer João Dias is a very approachable guy and he is brilliant of course.
That is probably never going to happen, but one first needs to dream to then create reality.
Thanks,
Mike

KWGT is part of the Kustom family of apps that are still being actively developed. Some of the features I have suggested have made it into the next release at that time. I imagine that if your idea/suggestion has not been implemented, then it is either not feasible without spending a lot of effort, few use cases/low priority, or maybe dev has other plans.
As for the Tasker collaboration, Flows were introduced a while back. This implements a lot of the functionality that Tasker was needed for, such as customizable web calls, more defined steps and ease of preset sharing.
I don’t think it’s fair to ask “Is Kustom still being developed” when you can see new versions and betas being actively released.
Hi Luis,
I didn’t mean for my question to sound unfair. I have KWGT for the longest time and yes, there are new versions coming out every now and then, but those are minor changes and bugfixes.
But I can’t really call that active development. That is my opinion, you are allowed to view that differently. I think I have been pretty clear in my appreciation for the work done by the developer, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make critical remarks. Credit where credit is due and critique where critique is due.
You mentioned that maybe my request were not feasible, but my request was a simple “save as” function that most other applications on earth have. Example: I made edits to widgetX-v1.0.1, and now I want to save as widgetX-v1.02. It’s not possible. I have to go the export route which is cumbersome and prone to mistakes.
The export and load functionality of KWGT has always been buggy and awkward and has lead to many of my projects losing many hours of work, because the thing I just exported wouldn’t load. This bug has been solvedm but the developer agreed with me many moons ago, that “save as” was a much needed function.
The other request was “a way to see which file I’m working on”. Another thing almost every application on the planet has. It wouldn’t cost much development time to show the filename in the space between the menu and the save button.
As it is now, there is no way of knowing which file is loaded. The only way to be sure that I’m not messing with the wrong file is to reload the file I want to edit.
These requests I have are not features. These are basic functionalities that are universal on every platform. It’s incomprehensible to me it is not present in KWGT.
The file management definitely needs a serious overhaul in my opinion. It has been the single gripe I have with KWGT, because for the rest it is an absolute gem, unmatched by anything else.
Greetings,
Mike
This is an example of what I do with KWGT/Tasker. This is solar lunar clock/ monitor/ taskmanager and a launchpad with a lot of tasker triggers behind the icons.
Looks nice although I can’t imagine why you are using KWGT instead of KLWP for something that elaborate.
I tried KLWP at first but there was a particular problem with the background and widgets that made my designs impossible and forced me to go to KWGT. I don’t remember what the problem was, because it is a many years ago.
I also remember KLWP to be less stable and more cpu/ram intensive.
