Last night my Sony Xperia 1 V updated to Android 15. After the Android update KWGT widgets on my Nova launcher home screen stopped updating entirely. I’m referring, in particular, to the “native” square-faced clock widget that comes with KWGT itself. Unlocking the phone does not make the widget update, waiting no matter how long does not make it update. Launching KWGT app updates the widgets, but after that they just freeze forever in their last updated state. Changing advanced options in KWGT app to “Fast” update mode has no effect. The only way to force widget update now is by launching the KWGT app.
Before the Android update KWGT widgets were auto-updating normally.
Is there an Android 15 setting I can tweak? And if not, is there still any hope for KWGT fix?
First, make sure that you have the latest version (3.77b435216) of KWGT installed. After doing that, force-stop the app and clear the app cache. Also, make sure to remove KWGT from your device’s battery optimization and similar third-party apps.
Yes, I did all that. No improvement. Actually after a few days KWGT widgets became more “alive” by themselves and started updating more frequently. However, they still get stuck from time to time for extended periods of time
And when they get stuck, locking-unlocking the phone or clicking on widgets does not help. The only thing that helps is manually launching KWGT app.
The only way to fix this problem I found so far is to make KWGT to display a persistent silent notification. With the notification it seems to be updating rather consistently.
Of course, now I have an annoying notification sitting in my notification pulldown area…
I think this is one of the reasons why the persistent notification is there. It’s to make sure that KWGT runs in the background. If it’s working when the notification is up then something in your device is probably killing KWGT’s background process.
I just restarted the phone and noticed that after restart the widgets stopped updating again. I pulled down the notification area, and the notification is not there anymore. In KWGT settings the notification is still set to “Force”, but the notification itself does not appear.
I checked all Android notification settings for KWGT app, and everywhere KWGT notifications are allowed/enabled. However, the notification is not displayed. Starting KWGT app does not help. The notification no longer appears, and the widgets are stuck again.
What could be the reason? How can I make that notification appear again?
Nope. I spoke too soon about notification fixing the widget update issues. The notification does not help either.
Even with the KWGT silent notification clearly present in the notification pulldown area, KWGT widgets still continue to enter extended periods of non-update. I just observed an almost 1-hour-long lag of the KWGT square-clock widget, even though the KWGT notification was running.
There’s no third-party “battery optimization” software of any kind on the phone (and there’s never been). And the Android app settings are set to allow background battery usage by KWGT. So, battery-wise, KWGT is enabled everywhere.
Even after manual update (by starting the KWGT app) the widgets are still stuck. Here it is:
Basically, the current version of KWGT is inoperational under Android 15. Hopefully, it will get updated for Android 15. Otherwise, Android 14 is apparently the end-of-life for KWGT.
P.S. It is not 9:00 AM, but the KWGT square clock is still frozen in the same position. And the notification is still there. Sigh… Only force-stopping and relaunching the KWGT app finally forced the widgets to update.
Hey there.
I had the same issues with KWGT until the latest android update. With the update itself there was no change in the behaviour (having a google pixel 9) but I searched and found this thread.
Trying all the proposed solutions I checked the notifications again and there was 1 that was “unused” - I opened that up and checked it so that even an unused notification would show up. Then I force closed the app, cleared the cache and restarted it.
And then I saw that ominous K icon in the notification area for the 1st time. I even have the notification (service running …) and everything is updating perfectly.
tl;dr: Check the app notifications again and allow everything. look for unused notifications and check even those.
Hope that helps. I am on Google Pixel 9, using Nova and KWGT, with basic settings like smart update and visible notification icon.
For the past several months there seems to be an issue with the KGWT widgets being very laggish to update (see pic) In the snap notice the widget clock compared to the system clock at the top of the screen. Is this an issue with the app, launcher, or OS? It’s failed to work properly both on Nova and Smart Launcher?
i probably know the reason
it’s the $wg()$ method always hit the cached function’s output and must be the bug level that requiring be fixed by the official development team
